Has this ever happened to you? You prepare for something. You know in your heart that you are ready but then somehow when you make a start, you discover that you forgot your goggles i.e. you didn’t edit a cartoon panel, failed to scan the right picture, didn’t sign up properly, fill in the blank. Essentially, this is what happened to me. I signed up for Go Comics on a day that they were experiencing trouble with the website. Somehow, my sign up didn’t quite go through and while I kept trying to post and everything looked fine on my computer, it wouldn’t appear on the website.

I may have been waxing poetic when I wrote this strip. And to tell you the truth I am not sure what my motivation was. It just sort of appeared on the page one day and it surprised me because other than some Shel Silverstein I really don’t quote poetry.
The last panel of this cartoon refers to Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The Birds.” Being a huge fan of dark comedies and classic thrillers, I like to give a nod to some of my favorites sometimes. Hopefully, no one will experience the wrath of a swarm of birds invading your swimming pool or town but if they do, please remember to keep your hands and feet inside the cartoon panels at all times, and hope that this is just a Hitchcock MacGuffin! The aquatic facility just got too positive for the lifeguards. No one enjoys having a moody person around, but it’s quite surprising how many can’t stand having a cheerful person around. Humans have a tendency to envy other humans who don’t seem human to them…. Am I making any sense?
Quisha is loosely based upon two ladies who at one time worked the front desk where I work. With a few other inspirations thrown in like the braids and the smile, Quisha represents the talkative person in your life whose happy mood never changes. This isn’t a caffeine patch! Do you have a friend or co-worker similar to this? As if spring wasn’t bad enough, with all the birds chirping, now every time the phone rings, the lifeguards have to hear Quisha sing also. |
AuthorIan Johnson was born with a crazy cartoon character perspective on the real world. “Suits and Guarders” is loosely based on his life as a lifeguard and swim instructor at a local pool. Any resemblance of characters in this work to persons, drawn or imagined, is purely coincidental. Archives
