Hashtags and Balloons

PictureCartoonist, Ian Johnson finally catching the social media bus!
I confess. I’m trying to get up to speed on #hashtags. As a cartoonist, I think in balloons and dialogue. Here I am, slowly getting the hang of social media. Facebook: Is it a non-stop party with friends? Or a self-absorbed narcissistic trip? Your choice.  My face in real life is kinda cartoonish, so I prefer the noon to four-ish party myself. Then there is blogging. Blogging is a downright scary word. It has a strange sound to me like the word “spelunking” and makes me think of being pulled from underneath the surface of a blanket of snow by some eerie monster. Ex: “Sadly, we lost Ian to the Blog,” or “She was right here a minute ago, but the Blog must have gotten her.” Insert cartoon balloon in next panel: “Bawahahahaha!”

My dilemma is this: When one finally gets on the social media bus, one has to make some difficult decisions: What other social media besides facebook will you choose? Who is your audience? Where are they? How to communicate with followers, if you even have any? Then there comes the agony of checking all the response, once you’ve gotten on the social media! Hey! I’m still a facebook baby!  Insert cartoon balloon here: (baby with arms up): “Ma-ma, Da-da, like me!”

Two skills one must accomplish on social media, is being able to monitor and manage your time on each media and master the art of multi-tasking. Cartoonists are like silent film artists.  They use a slow, visual humor that can create a soothing escape from the real world. Between my spelling handicap, and typos, I have never excelled past a padawan when it comes to onesy-tasking. Insert cartoon balloon here: “Turn balloons into #hashtags, you must.”

So, thanks for “liking me.”  I really appreciate it, and please remember to sign up for updates, since only those who have entered an e-mail account will be included in updates for suitsandguarders.com

Insert cartoon balloon here (baby with arms outstretched): “Baby needs contact info.”

Didn't see any way to look at older comics. Is there only one so far? or is the main page missing navigation buttons?

Hi Dan,
I am scanning cartoons presently so there will be more coming. I want to offer a free mini-comic to my subscribers first. Please tell your friends to subscribe! Thanks so much for your interest and input. It means a lot!

Ian Johnson was born with a crazy cartoon character perspective on the real world. “Suits and Guarders” is loosely based on his life as a lifeguard and swim instructor at a local pool. Any resemblance of characters in this work to persons, drawn or imagined, is purely coincidental.
