Charles Schulz is one of the granddaddies of the old-fashioned newspaper comic strip and is one of the greats in my opinion. He, along with some others, is my inspiration for drawing all of my cartoons by hand. Truthfully, I could have used the “Peanuts” app, but I went straight for the uniball pen, because drawing is my passion.
While I admit that this “Peanut-izing” trend appeals to the narcissistic tendencies in all of us, I had a moment of glee as I sketched myself, only to realize that despite the beard, I look very much like I did as a little kid in this drawing. I think this is the magic of Schulz’s “Peanuts” strip: it’s catching a tiny glimpse of your childhood self, while tackling adult scenarios. It’s the idea that inside each of us is the remnant of the kid we used to be. And for some of us, that nine-year old boy (or girl) will always be with us!
